Wicycle-It was one of the first things I saw when I joined Wikaniko. It’s such a good idea. I'm sure you’ve heard of Freecycle, where you give away stuff you don’t need any more and if you haven’t tried that, it’s great. You meet loads of new people and sometimes even get a jar of jam or something as a thank you. If you haven’t heard of it you can go on Yahoo Groups and just put in Freecycle to find your local one. They have them all over America and the UK.
Wicycle-it is even better because you have the chance of making a bit of money at the same time.
You’re not allowed to put stuff on if you’re a trader or run a business so it means that you don’t get a lot of one item coming up.
I think the best thing about it is that it’s FREE – the listing’s free, any number of pictures you like is free. You just don’t pay for anything – well unless you’re buying of course! You don’t have to pay to list items but if you want to be a verified seller then you are charged £3.99 every 60 days. If you’ve sold your stuff before the 60 days is up and cancel your account then you won’t be charged anything. However, all the money raised from the seller verification process goes towards planting Ten Thousand Trees in Africa so it’s all good really. You can sell for free if you don’t want to be verified.
Everything’s paid through Paypal so if there are any disputes you just use the Paypal dispute resolution service – no problem.
They’ve got an extra button that Ebay don’t have – a swap button. If it’s enabled then the person’s up for a swap instead of exchanging money. I’ve not tried that yet!
You have to be resident in the UK to join Wikaniko but not to use Wicycle-it. Anyone from anywhere in the world can list if they like. I think that’s a really good thing about Wikaniko. You can use the e-cards, or any of the other resources on the site without actually joining the company.
I think I could get used to this kind of wicycling.
